Minimalist Point of View

My favorite images seem to be those that are free from clutter, distractions and confusing elements. According to a definition I found,  that would make me a minimalist. That’s what I’ve come to realize as I make my way through an examination of my image library.

The most popular or most commented on images, the ones I go back to time and again are those that reach into the scene and reveal the most important elements in a tightly held composition. At the same time though, these images entice the viewer to imagine the scene in its entirely.

Gulls in the fiery light of sunset

Gulls in the fiery light of sunset

Sunset at Pismo Beach in California is a favorite. A fiery sunset, crashing waves and gulls strutting though the shallow rivulets of receding water was captivating.

However, I liked this image even more. The watchful gull, gazing into the setting sun with the light of the setting sun reflected on its beak while standing on the wet texture of the sunlit beach really caught my eye.
