“Pack your camera!” How many times have I said that to myself after missing a great photo opportunity because I had left my camera at home? I have many examples of interesting and sometimes award-winning photographs that I was able to capture because I made sure my camera was available.
“Old Victoria” and “Reeds at Sunset” are but two that come to mind. The photo below is another.
While at Big White in late October helping a friend move two kayaks I noticed that ice on the driveway had formed up in a series of interesting patterns. I thought at the time that they would make an interesting group of black and white images.
As I walked about trying to determine the best angle to capture the textures and designs I noticed that the yellow of one of the kayaks and the red tail light of our vehicle had become part of the reflection. It was as if a huge paintbrush had splashed color across the ice. What an opportunity. Thankfully I had brought my camera.
An outing may or may not produce a photo opportunity but it never will if you don’t take your camera.
